This city was very popular spa destination starting from 1920. The place was know as “Waters of Immortality” even in 7-9th centuries. The mineral waters contain lot of Radon, you can go to several bathhouses and even get medical mud applied.
There is architecture which is a synthesis of Stalinist period classical style and of local ethnic decor with Gothic and Roman features. In 90s the city lost its significance and many of the buildings were abandoned, or their functions changed. In 2015 the government started to revitalize the city and repair some of the old hotels and bathhouses.
